How does Site Search work?

Your platform can offer a search popup that opens over the current page. Visitors trigger it from the navigation bar, either by pressing Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows), or by clicking a search icon there. The popup itself appears centered on screen.

You can open the site search through the search icon on the right side of your navigation bar, or by using the shortcuts Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows).

Think of it as a shortcut, not a full search engine. It's built for "get me there fast," not for digging through long descriptions.

What it searches

The bar looks across five parts of your platform and groups results by type:

It shows up to 5 results per group, so the list stays scannable even on a platform with thousands of activities.

What it doesn't do

The bar matches titles and names only. It doesn't look inside activity descriptions, summaries, or blog post bodies. If a volunteer types a word that only appears in the description, they won't find the activity this way.

For that, they need the discover page's search box. That one searches title, summary, full description, organization name, and activity id together. If a coordinator reports "I searched for it and nothing came up," check which search box they used.

Use the search option in the discovery overview to search an activity by their summary, organisation or full description.

Two more things worth knowing:

• Only public, published content shows up. A draft activity or an unpublished page stays invisible here, same as everywhere else on the platform.
• The search bar works the same whether someone is logged in or not, and titles show in the visitor's current language, as long as it's translated.

Turning it on

This search bar is off by default. A Partnership Manager at Deedmob needs to switch it on for you, it's not something a platform admin can enable themselves.
